Leadership Week

Lessons in Leadership - Dream Team Visit to the Kakapo Team
Chris Quinn, CEO of Spark

Some of the ideas that Chris shared with us that we need to remember if we want to be a good leader are:
How to negotiate for a win win
- Prepare
- Make them feel good about it
How to explain things really briefly
- Take the most important part out to explain to others
How to get along well with others
How to tell great stories
- inspires people to do it

Leadership is not about being given the job. What matters is how you behave when you're a leader.

Leaders don't always win. What you do about the loss is what matters.

Connect with people. Care. Listen.

Be clear about what they want people to do.

Act on feedback.

We also spent time today writing down our own dreams and goals for our lives.  We used Google Draw to share our dreams.  Please have a look at our personal blogs to read what our dreams are.

PPPs

Thank you to everyone who came to our class PPPs - Pupil Progress Presentations.  The children truly enjoyed sharing their learning with their parents and even a couple of grandparents came along.  It was wonderful hearing the children talking about their goals, successes, achievements and everyday classroom work. Using our Chromebooks was a great way to share their learning at our PPPs and now to be able to show it to those who were unable to attend.

Our letter art was so much fun to create and share.  Here is the process we went through to create our art.  >>HERE<<

Once again, thank you to Mr and Mrs Aitken for cutting out all of our letters to begin our project!

Here is a video of us getting ready to take our letters to the hall for the Art Expo.  If you can't view it click >>HERE<< to be directed to the video.

New app

Today Mrs Gundesen taught a new ipad app to many children from different classes.  MacKenzie, Emily, Jordan and Liam went from our class to learn the new app and share it with us.  The app is called iReadWrite and it helps us find the correct words for our writing and then it reads our writing back to us.  It's a fantastic app that can really help us with our writing.  The children who went had fun teaching us and posting their stories to their individual blogs.

Oliver taught the children how to publish one of their stories into Booktrack Classroom and add music and sound effects. Our stories can now be read and shared with Oliver's class and others in our class.  Thanks Oliver!  You're a fantastic teacher!

Artist Research

This week as part of our two week Art focus, we have each chosen one of five artists to research and create a slide show about.  The final step of our research project was to recreate a piece of the artist's work.  Then we had to figure out how to get a picture of us with our art work into our slide show using our Chromebooks.  We think we are pretty clever to have figured it out!

Guest artist

Today we had a guest artist come speak to the Kakapo team. Her name is Melissa Diprose and she works as a restoration artist in Mt Wellington. She talked to us about what defines art and who is an artist. Then she taught us how to sketch a nose. It was great to have her speak to us and show us some of her work like the painting she did of Mrs Nichol's daughters.

Here is a link to her blog with some more of her artwork.  HERE

Google drawings

Today we learnt more about how to use Google Drawings. We looked at the work of Roy Lichtenstein and how he used colour and words to create powerful visual images. We brainstormed a large list of onomatopoeia words that we could use for our art.  After we created our picture we posted it to our blog, so be sure to check our out blogs to see our cool artwork!
