Tessellation

I shared this google doc with the class on which they found  the link to the Blendspace lesson on Tessellation.  The children worked independently through the lesson, watching videos and completing activities.

One of the activities was to create their own tessellation pattern using Google Draw.

The second activity was to watch a YouTube movie on making their own tessellation template by following instructions.  Most of the children were highly successful and everyone reflected on if their pattern worked or not.

Carnival Photography

Our classroom was the photography studio for the school carnival.  To make it look more like a true photography studio we decided to take photos to decorate the room.  We wanted to make sure that we took good quality, well thought out photos.

Before we began taking pictures we watched this movie on YouTube about how to take a good picture.  It gave us tips on composition, subject matter, centring, focus, etc.

We worked with a buddy and spent a lovely Wednesday afternoon going around the school taking pictures. We could take as many as we wanted, practicing different techniques, angles and viewpoints.  When we were done we had to delete all but 4 or 5 of our favourites.

Mrs Nichol printed the pictures and then we framed them on coloured paper.  Lastly we named our pictures and put labels on them.

Our photos are now hanging in our classroom.  Some were framed and hung from the railing outside our room on carnival day.  One person even wanted to purchase one of the pictures!  You can view all of our photos below or by clicking >>here<<
Carnival Photos

Mrs Thibauld from MaddieAboutYou.com photography loved our pictures so much that she decided to choose one as the winning photo based on all the important elements of a great photo.  She chose this photo, 'Peek' by Liam.  His prize is a family portrait session at Cockle Bay Beach.

Congratulations Liam!

All Blacks Win the Cup!

For our team school assembly we sang our own version of Uptown Funk called All Blacks Win the Cup! (lyrics courtesy of the very talented Miss Wiltenburg).  On Thursday we filmed our song and dance.  We like how the Year One PE class (and Mr Whatman) joined in!

Rugby World Cup Research

For the past two weeks we focused on the upcoming Rugby World Cup. We each researched and then wrote an information report on one of the countries participating or one of the All Blacks. Our published reports can be found on our individual blogs. Some reports have been printed and are on display in our cloak bay.

Money matters

This week we are starting our new theme, Money Matters. Today we pretended we were stranded on a deserted island and had to decide which items we would keep from a selection given to us. After a discussion about needs and wants we went back and had to narrow down our choices to the four most important things. Most of us came up with the same four - water, food, shelter and clean air.

Kakapo Assembly

Today was our team's turn to host the school assembly. Our theme was the Rugby World Cup. Room 3 had two contributions. One was a rousing game of rugby trivia using Kahoot in which 8 teachers came up front to give it their best shot!  Congratulations to Mrs Stansfield, Miss Hill and Miss Ginders for placing first, second and third respectively.  Here is the link to the Kahoot if you want to give it a go!  >>link<<
Our second contribution was reading the book. Grandma Joins the All Blacks.  Well done to our class members who presented today.

Oscar's speech

Today Oscar shared his Mandarin speech with our class and other Mandarin speaking students at our school.  He did a fantastic job and it was great for us to have a small experience of what it's like every day for Oscar and Blake as they spend the day in our classroom not understanding what we are saying.

Shapes

We are starting our new strand in Maths learning about shapes. Today we sorted a variety of shapes and gave our reasons for sorting them into the groups we did.

Carnival prep

We have finished making our contribution for the school carnival. We've used glue guns (even suffering from a couple of drops of hot glue on the skin - ouch!); we've painted and painted and painted; and then we added bling to our wands. They're looking amazing and we think they will sell out super fast at the carnival!!

Maths and RWC

In maths we used our skills at making enlargements to create a Rugby World Cup display for our classroom.
Transposing from a small grid to a larger one is harder than you'd think!!
