Problem solving

Today Miss Chow was in full control for the day as part of her practicum. In Maths we worked together in random groups to use ice block sticks and play dough to create the tallest and strongest tower. 

String art

Today Michelle's mum came and taught us how to do string art. It is definitely trickier than it looks!  We used fine motor, problem solving, patterning and even some collaboration to achieve our beautiful finished products.  Our work is proudly on display in class before we bring them home later this term. Thanks Mrs Lim for sharing this new craft with us. 

Literacy Circles

As part of our Literature Circles this week, each group had  follow up activity in keeping with their chapter book.

One group made commercials just like Brian did in Brian's Brilliant Career.  The commercials were made with our upcoming market day in mind.  Enjoy!

Another group made up an imaginary pet after reading their book, Midnight Pig.  They could design it using paper and pencil or Google Draw. Here is Jack's Google Draw pet.

Another group made treasure maps for the class to follow to find hidden treasure in the playground, after they read Treasure Island.

Creativity abounds!!

We chose a few lines from our favourite poems and illustrated them. It was difficult to make our letters and words fill the curved lines perfectly. Then we used dye to add a rainbow of colour. 

We have finished painting our clay fish. They are ready to go home. We love how colourful and quirky they all look. 

Literacy circles

We are reading chapter books and meeting in literature circles to discuss our books.  Each person is given a job to do before our meeting. The jobs are passage picker, connector, illustrator, discussion director, summariser and word master. 

Goods and Services

Today we discussed what goods and services are. We brainstormed ideas and added them to our class poster. 

We used an app on our iPads to create our own pizza business. We had to work together to see which group could earn the most money in half an hour. 

When we were finished playing we compared our profits and discussed what we had learnt about running our own business.
